In an earlier post I told you about Yoga for kids and the benefits of Yoga for kids with my Storyland Yoga DVD review. Here is a quote from that review:
"What's more is that there are tons of benefits of Yoga. Some benefits are is that it's good for the mind and body. It improves oxygen intake which helps the heart and lungs function better. It also improves concentration and focus and increases the flexibility and mobility of the joints. It also aids circulation, energy-flow, digestion, and elimination. Yoga is something that the whole family can get into together."Today I am going to continue on that theme and let you know of an awesome company that's called The Little Yoga Mat. The Little Yoga Mat sells child sized eco-friendly Yoga mats that are perfect for the little ones in your life. Ideally they are designed for the 4 and younger set. They are a fourth the size of regular adult mats and come in two vivid patterns based on authentic Yoga poses, Lotus and Sun. What's more, the designs on the mats help your little ones learn proper body placement, are non-toxic, and are slip-fee. The mats are easy clean with just a little soap and water. The Little Yoga Mat mats are affordable at $25 a mat.
Here is a little more about these adorable mats:
- Size: 14" x 36"
- Thickness: 1/4"
- Weight: 11 ounces
- Material: Made of TPE, an eco-friendly foam-like material
- Designs are created with soy based-inks
- Biodegradable and Recyclable
- Latex, PVC, lead, BPA free
At what age can you start Yoga with your children? Birth! I know what your thinking, it is too complex for a newborn to grasp. True, but they can stretch their little limbs out on the mat, and when you feel your baby is ready, you can do tummy time on the mat. My baby, "C" (now 4 months old daughter), loves doing her tummy time on her mat. She lays on her tummy and smiles and shrieks and giggles. She kicks her feet and rolls around on the mat. She truly loves her tummy time on the The Little Yoga Mat mat. "C" shares her mat with "L", one of her big sisters.
"L" ( year old daughter) was so excited when her mat came in the mail..she opened it up to find the vibrant purple mat and quickly announced she wanted to do her "Yoger". She knows it's Yoga but she calls it Yoger for some reason. At least she is doing it, right. So we went into the living room and popped in her DVD and rolled out her mat. She traipsed all around her little mat. She loved that she had her own spot to do her exercising, a spot that was just her own that her siblings couldn't intrude on. We also found that if we do Yoga on her mat, the mat provides a cute little spot for her to do a cool-down power nap.
Jensen founded The Little Yoga Mat, after creating mats for her daughter's pre-school.
