It presents a road map and framework for teaching phonetic-based reading skills. Students become actively engaged in the learning process, whether in class or in independent reading. The Teacher’s Manual also includes reproducible class and student evaluation forms to help educators evaluate students. This will assure that the students are reaching the progress goals of the curriculum.

Now the question is do they work?  They recommend that the lowest age that you should use the books with is 9 but that pre schoolers benefit by learning the sounds of the alphabet and the vowel sounds.  My 9 year old is a great reader so I decided to try this out with my 5 and 3 year olds.  My 5 year old knows how to read a little and these books did seem to boost his ability a little bit.  My 3 year old is just learning to recognize all her letters and say which one they are aloud (such as if I point to the "L" she would say "L".  There was a few she had difficulty with but she doesn't now.  So I would have to say that these books did help a little bit and since they are ours to keep in our physical presence we can revisit the books at a later date and try to boost their reading again.  I would have to say that Higgs Phonics books are well worth the investment if your interested in helping your child read better.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
